Description
This new little doodle here was commissioned by Stefania, a friend of mine.
She runs a small DIY store which, among nails, hammers and vinilic glues, deals also with garden plants. This year her husband and she created a new expositive area in the form of a mountain cottage and their main question was: how to name this new garden house? Let's ask around!
And so she asked her friends (me included) for some name suggestions.
I came up with Artemisia, both a plant genus quite common in our area and a famous female painter of XVII century, Artemisia Gentileschi (here some info [link]). It was love at first sight: so the garden house "Artemisia" was born.
Given my painting naturalistic subjects, she commissioned me an Artemisia painting.
Which one to choose?
My choice fell on the Alpine wormwood ([link] - Italian only, sorry!), a plant used in our mountains together with similar others to make the Genepì [link] , a really famous infusion liqueur.
Since Stefania lives up in the mountains, this small alpine weed was perfect!
Done with watercolours and pen (left window) and watercolours and coloured pencils (righ branch).
