Black-crowned night heron

Description

My handwriting, though not always intelligible, has always been quite regular and steady, especially during my university years, when ink flowed in rivers.
I've been thinking recently on how to play with handwriting and painting: I already did something on that line with the Ying&Yang chaffinches (here [link]) , but this time I wanted to be thorough.

And so, with a white marker on black paper the background was made, then, some tempera strokes after, this little heron appeared.
Done with collage, marker and temperas.

Here the picture reference: [link]

And after a bit of translation work :work: , here the English version:
A rather pudgy heron of average dimensions, the black-crowned night heron has a really striking plumage: the above parts, head included, are deep grey while the under parts are very pale grey; the beak is short and black and its short legs are pinkish yellow (reddish in the mating period). While flying it may appear completely grey. Behind the head there is a tuft made of white thin feathers which form a sort of crest. 1st year younglings have a brown mimetic plumage with white spots which make them look like a bittern. Nocturnal creature (from which the English name), it is easily heard and spotted when it goes flying towards the feeding areas; peculiar features are its pudgy shape, its slightly prominent legs compared to its tail and its deep, regular wing strokes. It inhabits swamps, river banks, small lakes or lagoons as long as there is a discreet tree coverage. It nests on trees in mixed colonies with other herons, called Garzaie, and more seldom between bushes and canes. In autumn the majority of the population migrates to Africa. The black-crowned night heron hunts during twilight or at night, along the borders of humid areas, eating amphibians (especially frogs), fishes and insects.
